What will happen during my first acupuncture treatment?
If you’ve never had acupuncture before, you may be hesitant to try it because you don’t know what to expect. To ease your mind, here’s what will happen during your first acupuncture treatment.
1. Paperwork- Yes, there will be some. You’ll have to fill out a patient health history and some additional forms.
2. I’ll feel your pulse and ask you lots of questions and we’ll go over your patient health history forms together. I will also answer any questions you may have about acupuncture.
3. Bodywork- You will receive some type of bodywork during your first treatment. It could be acupressure or reflexology. If you have pain in a certain area, I will also gently palpate for tight, tender or sore areas if necessary to give me a better idea of what is going on.
5. Acupuncture- You will also receive a full acupuncture treatment during your first treatment. This usually comes after any bodywork you may receive. After the needles are inserted, I will let you relax for awhile. I am also happy to sit quietly with you during your treatment if you prefer not to be left alone. Please wear comfortable clothes if possible. I will need access to your arms (usually from elbow down to fingers) and legs (from knees down to feet) for acupuncture. If I can reach those areas easily, you won’t have to get undressed and put a gown on.
Once your treatment is over and the needles removed, we’ll schedule your next appointment.
