Why Do You Keep Checking My Pulse?

6/3/2016

One of the first things I do when you come in and sit down is feel your pulse. I am not checking your heartbeats per minute. What I am concerned with is the quality, depth and rate of your pulse. These three things can tell me a lot about what is going on internally.  I want to get a baseline of what your pulse is like before I begin the treatment.

There are three pulse positions on each wrist that I feel. The right side tells me about your energy (or Qi), the left side tells me about blood flow and circulation.

After I insert the acupuncture needles, I will keep checking your pulse throughout the rest of the treatment. Why? I do this because your pulse should change from where it was when you first came in. For example, if your pulse was slow, deep and not too strong when I first felt it, then by the end of the treatment, it should become steady, stronger and have more “life” to it. Your pulse is your turkey timer as I like to say.  It lets me know when you are “finished” during the treatment and tells me that the treatment is working.
